The funny Banana Song by James Purdie

bondwelcThis was another spontaneous comedy video for my friend Curtis and students.   Originally I wanted to surprise him with my serious acting.

In the video introduction I ask the super serious question:

"If you had just one chance to..............eat a banana,  would you do it?  YES I WOULD DO IT!"

Then I realized it would take five minutes more to make a silly song too.  So I did it for laughs!

All Along the LongBoard by James Purdie and Curtis Good. Filmed in 4K in Kelowna, BC.

All Along The Longboard

All along the longboard is a comical script by my co-producer Curtis Good.  We work on a lot of projects together.

We modified it a lot together to try and include some spiritual elements, (one of my main life objectives) that would cause the viewer to question the mundane reality we live imposed on humanity. I have a special "soul story" called The Ocean of Love which we tried to merge into the script.  This is where the "magical elements" of the story get turned and what Raymond is trying to cautiously reveal. It actually took a day of debating to decide what to and what not to include.  So does it work? You can decide.

If this were to be a continuing series, our tentative title was "K-Town", where mysterious things happen.

Episode 1: Anthony Meets Raymond.
Script Synopsis: Title: "All Along the Long board"
Anthony, an up and coming documentarist is overjoyed to get a film gig with the hottest new girl band "The Sweet Cats," however, his rival Dave somehow steals the gig and by chance,

FATE TURNS: Anthony's re-assignment: Raymond, A GUY who is determined to bring Long boarding to the Olympics. Has Anthony, by chance, landed the better gig? Will Raymond convince Anthony about bringing Long boarding to the Olympics? What will they learn along the way?

Special Acknowlegment to Steve Scott of http://www.afterdarkcreative.com who also offered some creative support.

Check out this comedy video and share your thoughts.  We're also looking for actors and actresses to be in future episodes.  Things will get interesting fast.

Our Second Episode was tentatively based up on the these two characters having forged a a special friendship getting together and then finding a bottle washed up on the beach.  Inside the bottle was a copy of the "Ocean of Love" story.  Is it evidence of the existance of this mythical island and was Raymond really telling the truth?

Hi friends. Here's some of the songs, which I made back in Korea.

1. The Bondaygee Song (번데기 송):

It was important because I got the whole 'bondaygee concept' from this creation.

2. Soju Wonderland (소주원더랜드):

Great song and video I made for a good friend, Evan Wilds of Kamloops, BC. Made back in 2007 in just stadard definition. Just a simple one take green screen shot with different backgrounds composited in.

The intro footage was from downtown Seoul at city hall, where they gather for big events like world cup or protests! I love the lyrics to this song. My son opens with the word "love" and I too make a cameo next to John Lennon's VW Van holding the 'cup of peace.' Take a listen to these sage words.

The High School Blues Music Video by James Purdie

The High School Blues (A True Story)

"What happens when James faces off with one of his old teachers, who berated him at his high school?

Tension and comedy, that's what!! The story joins "Old Man Teacher" who knocks on James' door. After the two face off, will there be forgiveness in the end? This is a little song I whipped up some time ago reflecting my highschool turmoil, thwarted passions and teacher, principal-conflicts, etc. I shot, acted and edited this myself, playing both characters: Wounded Student-Artist & Old Man Teacher. The excellent story/script was created by my brilliant, high school buddy and film-maker, Curtis Good.

The lack of soul vision is the primary cause of public school problems.

The High School Blues - James Purdie

Went to school to be degraded
My love life was too frustrated
Teacher said "boy you're never gonna make it."
But I know now the man was faking.

Get out that place. Make new friends.
Write a little song. Shouldn't take long.
Went to school to be deflated.
My name is the staff room was so damn hated.
Teacher tried his best to make an example
By declaring me a dirty rotten apple

Get out that place. Make new friends.
Write a little song. Shouldn't take long.

Went to school to be berated
My love for life had all evaporated.
Teacher said "boy you're nothing but a zero".
So I tored up my plans for being a hero.

Get out that place. Make new friends.
Write a little song. Shouldn't take long.

Here's the actual Script we did for it:

HIGHSCHOOL BLUES

A working script by Curtis Good

“HIGHSCHOOL BLUES” (song by James Purdie)

(capitalized words are suggested changes by curt)

Verse 1
Went to school to be degraded
My love life was too frustrated
Teacher said "boy you're never gonna make it"
But I know now the man was faking

Chorus 1

Get out of THIS place
Make new friends
Write a little song
Shouldn't take long..

Verse 2

Went to school to be deflated
My name in the staff room was so damn hated
Teacher tried his best to make an example
By declaring me a dirty rotten apple

Chorus 2

GOT out of that place
MAKING new friends
WRITING a little song
Shouldn't take long..

Verse 3

Went to school to be berated
My love for life HAS all evaporated
Teacher said "boy you're nothing but a zero!"
So I tore up my plans for being a hero.

Chorus 3

I GOT OUT OF THAT PLACE

MADE A NEW FRIEND
WROTE THIS SONG
DIDN’T TAKE LONG…

SYNOPSIS: What happens when James faces off with one of his old teachers, who berated him at his high school? Tension and comedy, that’s what!! The story joins Old Man Teacher who knocks on James’ door. James opens the door to find one of his old teachers from the past, and he wants nothing to do with it. He literally kicks Old Man Teacher off the steps then proceeds to sing to him about this “Highschool Blues.” After the two face off, will there be forgiveness in the end?

SCRIPT NOTES:

-Filming Style: Love the increase in the frames to your current video. Good visual, this will help bunch this story into the time limit of the song. Use this as needed/sparingly. There is a good opportunity to establish this visual way of story telling in first scene when Old Man Teacher walks up to James’ door at his house.

-Note: The video cuts back and forth between James and Old Man Teacher. We obviously do not see them in the same frame as there is one actor for both parts. James, and Old Man Teacher REACT to each others actions. Can you say CATHARTICJ

CHARACTERS:

1) James: James is the singer songwriter in the story, who STRUGGLES. In the end he experiences TRIUMPH through forgiveness (we see this as James invites Old Man Teacher into his house).

2) Old Man Teacher: Starts out caring walking up to steps, becomes angry in middle, and in end is sad and repents (drops bottle looks up at James all sad).

FADE IN:

Highschool blues

EXT. Door - day

OLD MAN TEACHER sports a nice WHITE DRESS SHIRT, as he walks up to the front door of JAMES' house and BANGS on the door. He grips a BOOK in his hand.

James opens the door playing his guitar. His mouth hangs open in shock of who he see's.

The Old Man Teacher backs away

James kicks his foot toward Old Man Teacher.

Old Man Teacher falls back off the front steps as the BOOK FLIES OUT OF HIS HAND OUT OF FRAME. He stands on the walkway in silent confusion.

James continues to play guitar, as he sits down on his front steps and begins to sing:

(Verse 1)

James

Went to school to be degraded...

James hands Old Man Teacher a BOTTLE OF PURPLE ELIXER.

(CHORUS 1 BEGINS)

JAMES (CONT'D)

Get out of this place...

Old man Teacher chugs back on the bottle, as purple liquid spirals down his chin spiraling onto his white shirt.

Shot of James playing guitar and singing as he REACTS to the thirsty Old Man Teacher.

Old man teacher

(mouths the word)

Shouldn't take long...

James stands up momentarily on the steps and kicks a giant PURPLE BALL toward Old Man Teacher who catches the ball with cat like reflexes.

James sits back down and continues singing:

(Verse 2)

JAMES

Went to school to be deflated...

Old Man Teacher pulls out a NEEDLE from his pocket and holds the needle to the PURPLE BALL, as if holding a gun to head of a hostage. (This is a comic light moment as the Ball represents James thematically, and the Needle represents the teacher and school that has deflated James).

James continues singing.

JAMES (CONT'D)

Teacher tried to make an example...

Old Man Teacher smiles wickedly as he holds up a DEFLATED BALL

JaMES (CONT'D)

By declaring me a dirty rotten apple.

Old Man Teacher throws the deflated ball toward James.

James catches a SHINY RED APPLE.

(CHORUS 2 BEGINS)

JamES (CONT'D)

I got out of that place....

Cuts between James who sings on the steps while Old man teacher points his finger, as he berates james (yells).

(VERSE 3 BEGINS)

JAMES (CONT'D)

Went to school to be berated...

Old Man Teacher points angrily and mouths "berated" along with the song.

James hands a FULL BOTTLE of Elexir toward Old Man Teacher.

Old Man Teacher looks down at an EMPTY Elexir bottle in his hands, then up at James who sings:

JAMES (CONT'D)

My love for life has all evaporated...

OLD MAN TEACHER

(mouths the word along with song)

Evaporated...

James continues singing on the steps.

JAMES

Teacher said "boy you're nothing but a zero!!"

The empty Elexir bottle slips out of Old Man Teacher's hands, as it smashes on the cement.

Old Man Teacher looks sadly down at the smashed bottle. He looks slowly up at James who smiles reassuringly (note this is the point of forgiveness on James' part. It is important to get this visual in his face and following sequence):

James STANDS and begins singing:

(Chorus 3)

JAMES (CONT'D)

I got out of that place...

James motions for Old Man Teacher to follow him inside the house.

JAMES (CONT'D)

I made a new friend, wrote this song, didn't take long...

James smiles, turns and walks into the house.

Old Man Teacher follows James up the steps, stops and picks up the BOOK, enters James' house, and closes the door.

FADE OUT.

The World Stops Music Video by Brad Hampton. Video by James Purdie. Script by Curtis Good.

The Worlds Stops by Brad Hampton

Here's another sweet video we did for Kamloops recording artists Brad Hampton back in 2010.  Here once again I teamed up with Curtis Good for an excellent script, which really speaks for itself.  This is a very powerful song which we felt ought to be in film! So we did it!  I'm surprised Brad hasn't already shot to stardom with this amazing song.  Here's the lyrics and the story behind the song in Brad's own words:

James: Can you speak to the meaning of this song?

Brad: Ok here's the story behind the song.  The lyrics for this song were inspired from the feeling that came from physical distance from loved ones. When alone and away from loved ones, even though you truly don't like it, it feels like a cruel lesson and you're forced to justify that you have to spend so many days apart and pretend that it is alright. Phone calls were sometimes the only way to keep sane, the words "The World Stops for you and I" comes from the perception of how time stopped while on the phone.

James: Can you be more specific about "the world stops"?

Brad: Yes! The World Stop'ed on the phone because it was the one and only escape from the tedium of daily life at the time, sharing a house with a bunch of disgruntled humans and being 2200kms away! The only thing to look forward to as the days feel like years when you're away from your loved ones for 45 or more days... so The World Stops when you're on the phone call that is the only thing that is keeping you from losing your mind!

The World Stops lyrics:

Verse 1 -

I want to make it through the night, to one more time look in your eyes.. and see a piece of me inside.
I just hope that I can find.. another way to avoid all this, senseless tragic happiness.
Maybe time will realize, we need a chance to make it right.

Chorus -
Stand right up, walk out the door.
I think of your face and I want more.
Turn on the light give me a sign.
Don't move like that I'm hypnotized,
Too many times we're in disguise,
The world stops for you and I!

Verse 2 -

Take another look at life
Just like the stars up in the sky
There's something on the other side..
But we won't find out 'til we die.
We never know to avoid all this, unless the shoe no longer fits.
Maybe time will realize we get one chance to make this right.

CHORUS, musical interlude, Chorus

Old Mr. Jones song by Stephen Butler. Music video by James Purdie

Old Mr. Jones - Stephen Butler

Here's an upgraded version of Steve Butler's heart-warming hit song and classic, "Old Mr. Jones", which he wrote while we were back in Korea and playing in the bands, "Faded" and "Kunyang".

Here's the singer Stephen Butler's Contact info on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/stephen.butler.754703?fref=ts

Great times! Great music! Read the story and lyrics below.

I first went to Korea in 1997.  In 2001 I brought over Evan Wilds. Then Evan brought Brian Wiltse.  Shortly thereafter in Seoul, Evan met Stephen while playing music at a club in Itaewon.

Stephen had come to Korea for a TaeKwonDoe exhibition, but after hearing Stephen sing, Evan said, "Anytime you wanna come back to Korea we can make a band together!"  Steven came back and the rest is history.  The Kunyang Band was formed shortly thereafter.

Old Mr. Jones - Stephen Butler

Old Mr. Jones runs a full service station
With each tank of gas he gives great conversation
Still gets around pretty good to be 74.
He reaches his hand back to dig in his pocket
His eyes start to tear as he pulls out her locket
And I look at him and pretend I've never seen it before.

For 55 years he's been married to Rita
Through all the years he swears nothing is sweeter!
Will you still love me, when I'm as old as Mr. Jones?
When times takes it's toll and the gift of youth is gone.
When money is short and time times getting tough
Will you still be there for me, will love be enough?

One time a year his kids drive down to see him
The smile on his face as he runs out to greet them
He loves them ol' grandkids and buys them whatever he can

As they pull away and the dust starts to settle
He's brought back to earth by the sound of his kettle
He's wonders if he'll be around to see them again.

With a smile on his face and his arm around Rita.
Through all the years he swears nothing is sweeter!
Will you still love me, when I'm as old as Mr. Jones?
When times takes it's toll and the gift of youth is gone.
When money is short and time times getting tough
Will you still be there for me, will love be enough?

Two years have gone by and he went into to wake her.
Looked in the sky and yelled "Why did you take her?"
We were young lovers and had so much more to give
He knelt right down next to the old bedside table
Kissed her and said "I don't think I'll be able to live one more minute without you by my side!"
As he takes his last breath he whispers to Rita, "Life next to you, you know nothing was sweeter!"
Will you still love me, when I'm as old as Mr. Jones?
When times takes it's toll and the gift of youth is gone.
When money is short and time times getting tough
Will you still be there for me, will love be enough?
