The World Stops – Brad Hampton

The Worlds Stops by Brad Hampton

Here’s another sweet video we did for Kamloops recording artist Brad Hampton back in 2010.  Here once again I teamed up with Curtis Good for an excellent script, which really speaks for itself.  This is a very powerful song which we felt ought to be in film! So we did it!  I’m surprised Brad hasn’t already shot to stardom with this amazing song.  Here’s the lyrics and the story behind the song in Brad’s own words:

James: Can you speak to the meaning of this song?

Brad: Ok here’s the story behind the song.  The lyrics for this song were inspired from the feeling that came from physical distance from loved ones. When alone and away from loved ones, even though you truly don’t like it, it feels like a cruel lesson and you’re forced to justify that you have to spend so many days apart and pretend that it is alright. Phone calls were sometimes the only way to keep sane, the words “The World Stops for you and I” comes from the perception of how time stopped while on the phone.

James: Can you be more specific about “the world stops”?

Brad: Yes! The World Stop’ed on the phone because it was the one and only escape from the tedium of daily life at the time, sharing a house with a bunch of disgruntled humans and being 2200kms away! The only thing to look forward to as the days feel like years when you’re away from your loved ones for 45 or more days… so The World Stops when you’re on the phone call that is the only thing that is keeping you from losing your mind!

The World Stops lyrics:

Verse 1 –

I want to make it through the night, to one more time look in your eyes.. and see a piece of me inside.
I just hope that I can find.. another way to avoid all this, senseless tragic happiness.
Maybe time will realize, we need a chance to make it right.

Chorus –
Stand right up, walk out the door.
I think of your face and I want more.
Turn on the light give me a sign.
Don’t move like that I’m hypnotized,
Too many times we’re in disguise,
The world stops for you and I!

Verse 2 –

Take another look at life
Just like the stars up in the sky
There’s something on the other side..
But we won’t find out ’til we die.
We never know to avoid all this, unless the shoe no longer fits.
Maybe time will realize we get one chance to make this right.

CHORUS, musical interlude, Chorus
